Special Exhibits:
Feb 26 - Aug 31    The Work of Play: Where Business Meets Leisure
If you ever wanted to learn more about what people did for fun before the turn of the twentieth century, or the people who made that fun possible, our new exhibit is for you.The Work of Play looks at how leisure activities were defined by class. For example, gardening was considered a leisure activity of the wealthy, whereas farming was considered "work" to the working class.
Violin.gifThe exhibit also explores different trades and industries that were supported by leisure activities, such as the musicians who worked through everyone else’s leisure time either as the church organist, a fiddler at the town dance or occasionally as a professional musician on stage.Bottle.gif
Lastly The Work of Play examines the ways in which participating in certain leisure activities could in fact improve your business, such as sharing drinks at the local tavern. These topics will be showcased through five themes: print culture, music, taverns, fashion, and toys & games.
