Shoe Making

METC has a large collection of old shoes. Some of the shoes that are in the collection were found in walls of local Madison homes and donated to the museum. No one truly knows why people used to hide their shoes in the walls, but it is said that this mostly happened when people immigrated from Europe to the United States.

Other Shoe Making artifacts that can be found in the museum: Shoemaker, halfmoon knives, leather punches, shoe lasts (shoe forms) wood, pincers (alls holes to put thread through), peg breaks, bench, shoes sizing rod (like a caliber).
