METC Logo Craftsman of the Year

In 2002, the Board of Trustees established the Craftsman of the Year Award to honor New Jerseyans who have, in their own unique ways, significantly advanced our mission. Previously honored were:

2002 Richard Bagger
2003 John Cunningham
2004 Malcolm Dick
2005 John H. Bunnell
2006 Carmine Toto, Jr.

The Board of Trustees has named
Herbert P. Kean of Morristown
as our
2007 Craftsman of the Year.

Kean will be honored at a reception on
Sunday, May 20 from 3 to 5 PM.

A long time member of METC, Kean has been a dedicated volunteer and knowledgeable curatorial consultant. In addition to conducting various public programs, lectures, and classes, Kean led our Cub Scout program for three years. The Trustees particularly singled him out for his
many years of preserving and restoring antique tools, and for his tireless efforts in teaching young people about hand tools and about the craftsmen who used them.

Kean is recognized by numerous institutions as an authority on antique tool restoration. He is the author of four books and over one hundred and fifty published articles, including nine pages in the encyclopedia
World Book of Knowledge. He has also made television appearances on The History Channel and The Home & Garden Channel.

The Museum is accessible to persons with disabilities.
