Maritime New Jersey

Kindergarten through 2nd Grade

Date: September 25, Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, Nov. 6, 20, 2019 [Dec. 4 make-up day]

Time: 12:00-1:00

Description: Explore all things ocean related! From historical ships and pirates to shell art and lighthouses, this class will examine the coastal elements that make New Jersey unique.

Sept. 25          Oceans & Beaches: Explore how our uses of the ocean have changed, then make your own “beach-on-a-plate.”

Oct. 2              Ships: Trace the history of water travel and try to make a small ship that actually  floats.

Oct. 9              Lighthouses: Discover the purpose of lighthouses and make your own to take home.

Oct. 16            Shells & Shell Art: Make an artistic masterpiece using shells, while learning about where shells come from.

Oct. 23            Knots & ropes: Knots and rope are essential for sailors. Try your hand at some simple knots!

Oct. 30            Pirates: Learn about real pirates from history and make some pirate accessories. Coming in pirate costume is encouraged!

Nov. 6              Sea Creatures: Explore the many animals that make the ocean their home and make a marbleized sea horse.

Nov. 20           Maritime Flags: Discover the many ways sailors use flags and design your own flag.

Cost: $10/week ($80 for 8 week session)

We encourage you to register for the entire session to obtain the full benefit, but you may register for individual classes.

Surviving the 19th century

2nd Grade through 5th Grade

Date:  September 25, Oct. 9, 23, Nov. 6, 2019 [Nov. 20 make-up day]

Time: 1:30-3:30

Description: Are you ready to decode the past? Using primary sources and historic artifacts, students will explore the jobs, housing and transportation of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Discover the many challenges facing New Jerseyans during this time, and work as a team to problem solve for solutions.

Cost: $80 for the whole session

Winter Home School Session

New Jersey animals and endangered species

Dates:  Wednesdays January 8, 15, 22, 29, [Feb. 5 make-up day], 2019

Time: 12:00-1:00

Description: Join us in exploring how the native animals of New Jersey have changed over 200 years. Learn why some of these animals are now endangered and what each of us can do as conservationists.

Age: K to 2nd

Cost: $10/class ($40 for the 4-week session)
