Winter Homeschool Session

Mini Glassblowing Session with Morris County School of Glass

Join METC for a special two-part collaborative program with the Morris County School of Glass as we explore the arts of glass blowing, mosaics, stenciling, stained glass and more!

February 12, 2020, at MCSOG (89 Whippany Road, Morristown)

Part I: Demonstrations for the Group 12:00-1:00pm: Come learn about the magic of glassblowing. Did you know that glass is its own state of matter?  Watch as the glass goes from its liquid-like to solid-state right before your eyes! MCSOG’s talented artists will form and shape the material from a molten blob of glass into a beautiful, functional piece

Part II : Select one of the following options

1:15-2:45pm Glassblowing (for children ages 8 and up)

In this glass workshop, choose between several colorful objects you can create with the help of our talented artists. Learn to manipulate 2,100-degree liquid glass into beautiful and useful objects like a vase, bowl, flower, galaxy globe, heart, ornament, or snowman!

1:15-2:15pm Mosaics (any age)

Explore the ancient art of glass mosaics. This fun and easy class will explore color and texture to create a stunning work of original art. Learn techniques for cutting and shaping colored sheet glass to create a totally unique and beautiful tile.

February 19, 2020 at METC (9 Main Street, Madison)

12:00-1:30 Pick up your masterpiece at the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts and explore the late 19th century stenciling, stained glass, carvings and other artistic elements used to decorate METC’s beautiful and historic building

Cost for the 2-week Session: $72 per child for the mosaic option, $102 for the glass blowing option

Spring Homeschool Session

Toys & Games of the Past

Join our METC Educators as we discover together many of the toys and games played in the 1800s.  Then we will create, develop, and decorate your own unique games.

Dates: Feb 26, March 4, 11, 18, 25 [ April 1 make up day]

Time: 12-1pm

Ages: 4-7

Cost: $10 per class or $50 for the 5 week session

Specific Topics By Dates:

            Feb. 26: Making clay marbles
            March 4: Painting wooden tops
            March 11: Making spoon dolls
           March 18: Decorating masquerade masks
           March 25: Constructing blocks
* All classes will also include playing with other 19th century toys and games.

Challenges & Choices: Immigrant Experiences in 19th Century New Jersey (2nd-5th grade)

Explore the difficult challenges immigrants encountered in the mid-1800s. Experience what it meant to travel from far away countries to settle in New Jersey by stepping into the immigrants’ shoes and packing actual 19th century objects and taking on the roles of real New Jersey immigrants.

Dates: April 1, 15 [ April 22 make up day]

Time: 1:30pm-3:30pm

Ages: 2nd – 5th grade

Cost: $40 for the 2-week session
